Top 5 Easy Updos for Short Hair

2016.06.23

Short hair has gotten a bad rap for not giving us any styling options. Well, I’m here to tell all of those haters that they are wrong! You can do just as much with short hair as you can with long hair. I’m here to help you find the perfect updo for you to rock at any event. So, here are 5 easy updos for short hair!

Easy Updo for Short Hair 1: Simple Tuck

Materials: Comb, Bobby Pins, Hair Tie

The first step to this classic updo is pulling your hair into a ponytail at the height of your choice. Then pull on the ponytail as if you’re going to take it out but you’re simply loosening it. The next step is to take your finger and make a gap between your scalp and the ponytail. You then twist your ponytail and tuck it into the gap so that you cannot see the ponytail holder anymore. Finish this look off by pinning it all over so that the ‘do will stay put while you dance the night away.

Easy Updo for Short Hair 2: Romantic Updo

Materials: Curling Iron, Comb, Bobby Pins, Hairspray

The first step to this beautiful and messy updo is to create large curls throughout your hair with a curling iron. Once you’re finished curling, add volume by teasing hair at the crown. You’ll then pin back a small section of hair at your temple. From there just pin random pieces of hair back. This is supposed to be a messy look so don’t be afraid to have some pieces left out! You’ll then curl those little pieces that were left out of the bobby pins. Finish the look off by spraying it with hairspray for hold and you’ll be ready to hit the red carpet!

Easy Updo for Short Hair 3: High Half Up Pony

Materials: Hair Tie, Comb (optional), Hair Straightener (optional)

This simple hairdo is having such a moment right now! You see it on everyone from Ariana Grande to Khloe Kardashian – it’s just such a cute style that you can wear it with any hair length. You can either go for a sleek or messy look with this style.

If you want a sleek look, straighten your hair your hair and slick back the top part of your hair into a high pony. Maybe even tie some hair around the hair tie to hide it – it’s Ariana Grande’s signature look.

If you want a messier look, take your natural hair and tease it for some volume. You then take that part of your hair and turn it into a high ponytail. You can give the ponytail some purposeful bumps for extra messy points as well. You’ll look so on trend with this fun look!

Easy Updo for Short Hair 4: Side Braid

Materials: Hair Tie

Once again, this is a very simple ‘do that will take your look to the next level. Start with a side part and then part the side that has the most hair again so your part looks like a “T”. Take all of your hair that isn’t the front section and tie it back so it doesn’t get in the way. You will then french braid the whole front section and tie it off. You can make the braid look messy by pulling some hair out of it and loosening it. Let down the rest of your hair and tie your braid to a small section underneath your hair so it’s out of the way and the rest of the braid can stay hidden. This hairstyle is perfect fit for a formal dress or just an every day look!

Easy Updo for Short Hair 5: Braided Updo

Materials: Hair Ties, Bobby Pins, Curling Iron (optional)

This is an updo for short hair that will look perfect for any occasion. You will first want a side part so that one side has more hair than the other. After you part your hair, put it in two pigtails. If you want to add some texture, consider curling your hair before you go on to the next steps. You will then braid both ponytails and tie them off with a hair tie. After you finish braiding, loosen the braids by pulling them apart a little bit. You will then take the braid with more hair and bring it across the nape of your neck and tuck the end under the other braid. Take the smaller braid over the top and wrap it around the hair tie of the other braid and pin. Make sure you are hiding the hair ties! Secure both braids with pins and you’re ready to go!

We hope you loved these stunning short hair updos! They’re easy enough to do every day but you can you can also dress them up with a gown for you next special occasion.
