Elaine, our senior fashion designer, attended a music and fashion filled weekend at Governor’s Ball Music Festival! She chronicled her experience and all the killer festival style trends she saw there. So, we summed up a quick trend report to show you the latest in New York festival style. This is Elaine’s Governor’s Ball Trend Report!
We left the Faviana office much later than we hoped, as we were busy editing our beautiful new SPRING 2017 collection – so exciting and cannot wait for you all to see it!
Dashed home through rush hour traffic and ran back out in fifteen minutes – embraced the weather (rainy & cool) and dressed minimally. Missed Of Monsters and Men, but caught the end of Duke Dumont. We had dinner from Mac Truck and went to hear a great set from Beck!
Listened to Jamie XX on one stage and then moved to the main stage to be right up front for The Strokes.
The Strokes were fantastic and played some new songs as well as crowd favorites, and the night ended with fireworks…
The trends from the first day consisted of edgy rocker jackets, flowy romantic dresses, and of course bohemian festival fringe:
Rainy early, but the sun came out and it turned into a hot, hazy, & humid New York day.
Walked along the East River and watched the Gov Ball ferries loaded with festival fans cruise back & forth from Manhattan. Arrived in time to hear Marian Hill, whom I loved dancing to, and was happy to hear some of their brand new songs. Went to see The Knocks, who had both Carly Rae Jepsen & Wyclef Jean as surprise guests! Next was Catfish & the Bottleman, Lord Huron, Haim, & Purity Ring, ending the night soaking wet and dancing to The Killers, who gave it everything.
The much nicer weather brought out the full range of NYC festival style, which tends to be more clean and minimal – no one really wants to look as though they tried too hard – with cut-off shorts and tiny tops the primary look.
Easy dresses in cooling colors were perfect for the hot and sticky weather – simple & effortless – balanced with sunnies, loose hair, white sneakers, & pale metallic backpacks.
Also seen on the scene were off-shoulder tops & dresses, lace-up camisoles, lace & ruffle-trimmed rompers, bathing suits/body suits with shorts, fringed everything, easy pants in prints and stripes; denim skirts mini, or long and sweeping, and long vests or kimonos over shorts.

These are just a few of the trends spotted at this year’s Gov Ball! It showed how diverse New York’s style truly is. We hope you got some inspiration for your next outfit!
