While these hair colors look absolutely stunning, they require a lot of maintenance in order to keep your hair looking and feeling vibrant and healthy. I had pastel pink a few years back and learned a lot about how to take care of it and now I am going to share some of those tips with you!

1. Drench Your Hair In Coconut Oil

Yes, you heard me. In order to achieve the best results from coconut oil, it requires you to drench it all over your head. While it may be messy, coconut oil plays such an important role in keeping hair healthy. Coconut oil prevents breakage and split ends which are two things that frequently occur after coloring your hair. In order to dye your hair a pastel color, it requires several rounds of bleach depending on how dark your normal hair color is. When your hair is bleach blonde before the pastel goes on, it is essentially dead from all of the bleach. In order to prevent breakage and keep your hair feeling smooth, it is important to use coconut oil.

In order to achieve the best results, I would suggest ‘painting’ the oil on your hair with a thick brush and then leaving it in a shower cap overnight. The longer you leave the oil in your hair, the smoother your hair will be when you wash it out. You will definitely look like a greasy mess when you wake up, but it will be all worth it when you pastel hair is shiny and smooth!

2. Shower With Cold Water

Showering in cold water is not the most pleasant experience, but if you want to keep your pastel hair color for as long as possible then it is essential. One of the first things my hair colorist told me about taking care of my pastel hair is that it you must wash it using cold water. According to New Beauty, hot water lifts the outer layer of the hair color which causes the color to fade. It is also good to note that if your hair is freshly done, I would wait 24-48 hours to wash it in order to give it a higher chance of not fading as quickly.

3. Use Sulfate Free Shampoo

If you are like me, then you probably never really paid attention to what was in your shampoo until you dyed your hair. After dying my hair pastel pink, I really wanted to preserve the color so I did research to look up all of the best ways to keep it looking vibrant and fresh. One of the important elements in addition to using cold water when washing your hair, is to use shampoo that is sulfate free. Shampoo with sulfate not only dries out your hair but it causes the color to come out faster. I would recommend using AG Hair Care Colour Savour to shampoo and condition because it really does preserve the color and keep your hair feeling smooth and healthy.
