5 Fashion Films For The Ultimate Fashionista

2020.04.16

Calling all the fashionistas in the building! Growing up, I was a sucker for fashion, especially once I hit my teenage years. My favorite films consisted of the ones that had a fashion based plot line whether is was fictional or a documentary. Even now, I watch these films in rotation because why not? There are countless movies about fashion from Coco Chanel to Jeremy Scott. If you’re a fashionista yourself, keep on reading to find the top fashion films to watch on your next movie marathon!

The Devil Wears Prada

The Fordham Ram

The Devil Wears Prada is a rather accurate depiction of what it’s like to work for a high fashion publication in Manhattan. In a way, it is a play on Vogue and Anna Wintour with a tad bit of exaggeration. Given a rating of 4.7, this movie is one of the pioneers of fashion films for the modern age. Andrea Sachs, played by Anne Hathaway, shows true character development from being a writer to Miranda Priestly’s assistant and how the world of fashion is cut-throat as well as life-changing!

The First Monday In May

NOMA

If you’re a lover of all things fashion, you must know about the Met Gala that takes place on the first Monday in May! This film featuring Anna Wintour is an exciting documentary about how the Met Gala is organized from the theme to who is invited. The Met Gala is definitely on the bucket list (anyone know Anna’s email?)! This particular film showcases the “China: Through the Looking Glass” exhibit at the 2015 Met Gala. If you’ve watched the Met Gala red-carpet looks, you probably know of Rihanna’s exquisite dresses. For this exhibit, she wore her famous “egg yolk” dress by Guo Pei! If you want to get the inside scoop of how the Met Gala works, you NEED to watch this film!

Confessions of a Shopaholic

RIP to my bank account! Who has been more of a shopaholic lately while being home-bound? I know I have! To make yourself laugh or feel a little better about your shopping, Confessions of a Shopaholic is probably one of the most relatable films you could ever see. I know I started getting some slight shopping withdrawals with the stores closing, but online shopping has saved the day! In this film, Rebecca Bloomwood is the ultimate shopaholic that she actually drowned herself in debt. If you haven’t seen this movie, just wait until you see her closet!

Jeremy Scott: The People’s Designer

Baus Noir

Jeremy Scott is one of my all time favorite designers. Creative director of Moschino and creator of his own line, Jeremy Scott, he brings pieces of popular culture into his designs to make them his own. You’ll know Jeremy Scott if you’ve seen the famous McDonald’s inspired collection or the cereal box gowns. This film is a perfect documentary on the life and success of Jeremy Scott featuring stars and stylists that he works with. From Missouri to Moschino, it’s interesting to see the inspiration behind the brand. AKA this film is a MUST SEE.

Dior and I

Christian Dior was one of the pioneers of high fashion right along with others like Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel. The film Dior and I dives into the first collection with new creative director, Raf Simons. While this film was made back in 2015, Simons is not with Dior anymore, but it is interesting to see the process and the high stress of creating a Dior haute couture collection. Before I saw this film, I had no idea what went into making a haute couture collection, but WOW is all I can say. The film showcases how the DNA of Dior and the vision of Raf Simons came together to make this collection! A must see and a Dior crash course all in one!
