Half Up Half Down Hair Styles

Prom is just around the corner, and the excitement is starting to grow! As you are planning your pre-prom and post-prom festivities, it is also time to plan what you are going to ask your stylist to do with your hair on prom night. Not quite a full updo kind of girl? If you are looking a way to show off your hair, but still keep it off your face for photos and dancing, we have some great suggestions. Try a braid for prom, or a half up half down bun for prom, the options are endless! Check out Faviana’s tips for Half Up Half Down Hair Styles!

Half Braid

A half braid is a great boho inspired look for prom. Ask your hair stylist, or your friend, to section half of your hair and french braid the crown, or try a fishtail. This look is perfect for adding a flower crown, or boho hairpiece. Make this style a bit fancier by curling the remaining hair, or adding a few mini braids throughout. If you aren’t looking for a hairpiece or a crown, simply braid the hair around your head for a crown-inspired look!

Half Bun

This 90’s inspired look is perfect for a casual and cute prom look. With a half bun, ask your hair dresser for either a messy style bun, or a ballerina style bun- depending on your preference, as either can be chic. To make this look truly prom-ready try a french braid on either side, swept into the bun. For a unique look, you could also try two buns either high or low on your head, for a true 90’s look.

Half Twist

One of the easiest looks to achieve, a half twist can complete any desired prom look. With either one simple large twist, or an intricate mix of several, this look can be accessorized with just a few touches. For the easiest version, simply pull the top half of your hair back into a half pony, and flip it through a hole created at the base. Depending on the length and thickness of your hair, you could even create a tiered look by positioning several twisted pony tails brought together at the base of your head. Always remember to hide the elastic to keep the look sophisticated!

Half Pony

Looking to add a little volume to your look? A half pony is a great way to add some umph to your hair without having to go over the top. Section off the desired quantity of hair and pull it into a high pony. You can add volume by also asking your stylist to tease the crown of your hair, before pulling it back into an elastic. For a simple look, wrap a piece of hair around the elastic, and straighten your hair for sleek finish. Arianna Grande would be so proud!

We hope you have found a look here that matches your style, and gets you even more excited for prom! Whether you are a no-fuss hair kind of girl, or are looking for easy styles you can do yourself, half up half down styles are perfect for anyone.
