Smokey Eye Tutorial

Michelle from our Operations department is here to teach us all how to achieve the perfect Smokey Eye! Michelle always looks fabulous, so we asked her to show us one of her favorite daily looks. So we teamed up with the Glam & Gowns Vlog and put together easy step-by-step instructions on how to achieve the best smokey eye! We did this look with shades of brown to keep it soft to use as an everyday natural look.

For this tutorial you will need:

Becca Ombre Nudes Eye Pallet (or your favorite matte nude pallet!)

A fluffy eye shadow brush

A large fluffy face brush

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner (or your favorite liquid eyeliner!)

Step 1: Start with a bare face! Moisturize and prep as usual.

Step 2: Choose the lightest nude color closest to your skin tone, and sweep it all over the lid using a big, fluffy brush.

Step 3: Choose a slightly darker color, (in this case, next in line) and sweep it all over the lid, but starting to focus on the outside and crease of the eye.

Step 4: Follow down the line and choose your next darker shade, and again sweep it along the crease. The continual blending of all the colors together creates the smooth smokey look.

Step 5: Using the second to last darkest color, sweep this color on the outer edge of the lid and in the crease. Be more precise about where you are adding the color now, ensuring darkness does not go all the way up to the brow bone. Be sure to still blend out the color so there are no harsh lines and it is a natural look.

Step 6: Taking your darkest shade, gently tap into the shadow with your fluffy brush and tap off the excess to make sure there is not too much of the dark color. This time, focus on the outer corner with the shadow.

Step 7: Go back in with the lightest color on the on inner corner and lid to soften up the edges. With the same light color, sweep some shadow on the brow bone to bring back some of the light and highlight the eye. This also softens the edges where the darkness is.

Step 8: Take your large fluffy face brush and wipe away any of the fallout from the shadow.

Step 9: Now it is time for liner! Michelle suggests starting in the middle of your eye with small, short lines. Tight line right by your lashes and fill in so there are no gaps.

Step 10: Create your wing as if it is a continuation of your lower lash line. Start from the outside close to your eye and draw in. Make your wings as big or small as you want! Winged liner will make your eyes pop in your event selfie!

Michelle’s Extra Tip: Let’s be honest, it takes a lot of practice to get a line as perfect as Michelle’s! To make the line more blurred in case it’s a little bumpy, take a thin brush (like one you would use for your eyebrows) and some dark eye shadow and apply it close to the liner to blur the edges to make a softer, cleaner look.
