Schedule Your Sleep

As you plan your day, set a tangible time you would like to be asleep by, and stick to it. Make sleeping a priority, and make sure that you are able to set down your daily tasks when it is time to sleep. Beauty sleep is no myth!

Be Consistent

Sadly, you can’t actually catch up on sleep. You will feel truly rested when you have consistently had good quality sleep for a few days in a row. Try to maintain enough sleep that your body needs every night, as varying bedtimes can mess with your REM cycle.

Don’t Eat Before Bed

While a midnight healthy snack seems appealing, try to keep the late night snacking to a minimum. Laying down after eating makes your body digest slower, and can prevent your body from settling, which in turn will affect your mind. If you find yourself hungry before bed, try having a cup of herbal tea or water to fill you up without actually eating.

No Phones

Using your phone before bed is known to get your mind racing and prevent you from settling into a restful sleep. Try to read a book before bed instead of scrolling through apps. Both the light and mental stimulation can increase the time it takes you to fall, and stay, asleep. Also, try to keep your phone plugged in away from your bed so you aren’t tempted to use it.

Exercise

Working out is proven to improve the quality of your sleep. You don’t need to be a gym rat, but try to get your body moving every day. A tired body sleeps well, but a healthy body sleeps even better. A balanced diet throughout the day is also known to help improve the quality of your sleep.

Comfortable Bed

This may seem obvious, but your bed could be the reason you aren’t getting good quality sleep! Look into getting a new mattress, or maybe adding a foam pad to your mattress. Experiment with new pillows as well, as sometimes the angle of your head can help you fall asleep easier.

Good sleep is the key to a good life! Looking and feeling your best is always when you woke up feeling refreshed and awake. Start making some changes to improve your sleep, and wake up ready for anything!
