Cleaning Your Shoe Bin

2018.10.17

Another school year is on its way, and a lot may have changed in a year, including your style or your taste in clothing. Therefore, it is time to clean out your shoe bin! We have done a piece on how to clean out your closet, but what about that overflowing shoe bin? If you are one of those girls with a million pairs of shoes, then it is time to go through and see what you actually wear and what you can part with. Here at Faviana, we know the shoe obsession is real, so we came up with a few tips on how to make the process of cleaning your shoe bin easier!

Lay Everything Out When Cleaning Your Shoe Bin

Pull all of your shoes out of your closet and have an honest conversation with yourself. Bring a friend or your mom to back you up. Look at each pair of your shoes and ask yourself: Do I wear these? Do I like these anymore? Are these still my style? If the answer is “no” to any of these, place those shoes in a separate pile. Once you are through your whole bin, ask yourself a few more questions…

Try Your Shoes On

The first step to cleaning your shoe bin is seeing what still fits. If you put on a pair and it pinches or rubs, or in any way feels uncomfortable, put them in the “no” pile. If the shoe requires more than two band-aids per foot, it is a no-go. There are too many amazing shoes out there to have painful feet!

Do You Have An Occasion To Wear Them To?

If you can’t seem to part with a pair, see if you have an occasion to wear them to. Do you have a summer event coming up? If the answer is no, it is probably time to part with them. If you’re still not sure, try wearing the shoes for a day, and if you still don’t love them or they don’t feel quite right, time to toss (or donate)!

Donate Them

If you realized that you will never wear those shoes you bought no matter how cute they are, it is time to say goodbye. Look into donating them or giving them away to make some space for the shoes you do wear. Find a thrift store or consignment shop that will give you store credit or cash back for your gently used shoes, and use that money to get a new pair you’ll actually wear! You could also look into programs that take good condition shoes for events like proms, and donate your cute heels to a person in need. No need for a good shoe to go to waste!
