Preparation

First things first, you want to make sure your face is clean and ready for makeup. At night, be sure to wash your face and moisturize! Do not underestimate the power of your moisturizer. If you have red or acne-prone skin, applying essential oils at night before you moisturize can be incredibly beneficial. Rosemary helps calm the skin, tea tree helps calm the redness and gets rid of bacteria, and coconut helps to naturally moisturize. Also, be sure to apply moisturizer the next morning so that your skin doesn’t crack and mess up your makeup.

Now that you have prepped your skin, let’s hop right into our top makeup tips and tricks!

Primer

For several years of applying my makeup, I never used a primer because I saw no point. One day I ended up purchasing one and I will never go back! Primer really preps your skin by filling in any pores and masking blemishes prior to applying your foundation; it will help your makeup last so much longer.

Eyeshadow as an Eyeliner

Are you out of eyeliner and don’t have time to run to the store? Do you always make a mess with your liquid eyeliner? All you need is your favorite black eye shadow and an angled slope brush. It applies much easier and cleaner than liquid, plus it stays. You can also use black eye shadow and an angled slope brush to set your liquid eyeliner. The angled brush allows you to be precise with the line.

Eyeshadow to Fill in Brows

Although you have to be incredibly careful doing this, it can work really well in your favor. The most important part of this tip is that you must choose the perfect color that will not make your eyebrows look too dark and unnatural (unless that is the look you’re going for). You just take the same angled slope brush that I mentioned in Tip #2, and fill in your eyebrows with an eyeshadow that matches your natural color. For example I have medium brown hair, but I actually use a dark blone shade. They said go use a shade one to two shades lighter than your hair color for that natural look.

Lazy Gal Eye Shadow

If you are tired and just do not have time to sleep off those black circles, have no fear. Just put a shimmery white/nude colored eye shadow in the inner corner of your eyes. It makes you look refreshed and awake!

Ensuring that Lipstick won’t end up on your Teeth

It is the worst when you are rocking the most gorgeous lipstick and the second you smile, someone looks at you and says, “uhm, you have something on your teeth.” Yikes! Do not let this happen to you. After you apply your lipstick, put your pointer finger in your mouth in between your lips. Close your lips around your finger and then slide your finger out while your lips are still closed. This should remove all of the lipstick that is on the inner part of your mouth by your teeth, without messing up your lipstick.

Making your Lipstick look Matte

Not setting your lipstick can cause it to smear and look too shiny. After you apply your lipstick, press a thin tissue over your lips and apply a translucent powder to set your lipstick. It will take away the extra shine and make the lipstick last longer.

Make your Eyelashes Appear Longer

If you are like me, you have tried every hack to try and make your eyelashes look longer. This tip is something that I tried a while ago and I never go without it. When applying your mascara, apply it downwards first, then curl your eyelashes and apply it upward second. This gets both sides of your eyelashes covered with mascara, making them look fuller and longer! Woohoo!

Making Dried out Mascara Work

If you have a tube of mascara that you know cannot possibly be empty yet, but it is not working well, then this is the tip for you! Get a warm bowl of water and set your closed mascara tube into it. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes, then it should be ready for you to use it! The warm water helps break apart the dried clumps that are stuck together inside and makes it liquid again.

“Balancing” your Makeup Look

Balancing is a technique you can use to make sure you do not look like you have overdone your makeup look. If you wear a bold lipstick, then go with a natural eye look. If you wear a bold eye look, then go with a simple/nude lipstick. This creates balanced, natural looking makeup.

The most important tip to remember is that you are beautiful with or without makeup. Wear whatever makeup makes you feel beautiful and comfortable. Love the skin you are in! Combine it with stunning cocktail dresses, and you are ready to rock!
