Whether you’re attending a formal event such as a wedding or prom, or just spending a day out with your girlfriends, we all love an excuse to make our face up. However, we don’t love when our makeup doesn’t stay on our face all day. Next time you go out, try our favorite tricks to make your makeup last all day long!
Using a primer before applying makeup is the oldest trick in the book to make your makeup last all day. This is the first step of your beauty routine, used on both your face and eyes. Face primer seals in your skin care routine done beforehand, while creating a barrier that smooths the surface of your skin for a prolonged wear. Ensure you’re putting on a thin, and even layer all over your face before applying your foundation. The primer works by sticking to your skin, and your makeup sticking to the primer. This also helps fill in pores, fine lines, and create a nice surface for your foundation to go on smoother and last longer. On the other hand, eye primer creates the perfect surface for your eye makeup. Show the true pigment of your eyeshadow, be able to blend easier, and have your eyeshadow and eyeliner last all day without smudging or creasing.
Quality Over Quantity
To make your makeup last, you’re going to have to buy specific makeup to do so. When looking for a primer, try to get one that is oil-free and water-based. This will prevent your foundation from slipping or moving around throughout the day. Additionally, you should opt for an oil-free foundation. Oil based products are prone to make your makeup slide out of place. No matter what skin type you have, oil-free foundation is the best for a long-wearing effect and a smooth complexion all day. As far as mascara and eyeliner goes, go waterproof. This eye makeup tends to smudge under the eyes after excessive wear, resulting in a “raccoon effect.” To avoid this, try a waterproof formula to keep your eyes smudge-free for more than just a few hours.
Lipstick is the one cosmetic that gets washed away too easily. To try and save your luscious lips, blot them with a tissue after applying your lipstick, and then dust a layer of translucent finishing powder on. A gentle tap of this powder over the top of your lipstick makes it appear matte, while making it last. If you’re not really into the matte trend and still want a satin finish, try applying it in layers. You can repeat as many layers of lipstick until you get the opacity of your lipstick that you want. This layering technique will give your lipstick a base to hold on to without drying out and cracking your lips. Another great trick to hold your lip color and prevent smudging with various activities throughout the day is lining your lips first.
You can have the best cosmetics in the world, but at the end of the day it comes down to you and how prepared you are. Blotting papers or a dry sponge should be carried around to soak up oils during the day, without disturbing your makeup. Other items to keep in your bag to keep your makeup looking fresh all day is your lipstick to reapply lightly and your pressed lightweight powder for a quick touch-up. Besides the essentials, here is the most important rule – hands off! Not only does touching your face throughout the day smudge your makeup, but your hands collect oil and bacteria throughout the day that can cause blemishes.
