Before creating the look, you’re going to need the right materials. Here is a list for you to put together and get started!

  • A regular hairbrush for tangles
  • A comb with a tail
  • A ceramic round brush
  • Blow-dryer
  • Anti-frizz serum and/or a heat protector.
  • Hairspray
  • Hair gel
  • Rubber-bands
  • Bungee tie

Now that you have your materials gathered, you’re going to have to prep your hair. We recommend starting with damp hair.

Hair protection is crucial, especially if you have naturally curly hair. Take the time to spray in a heat protectant and anti-frizz serum. For those with curly hair, it helps tame and make your hair easier to work with!

Once your hair is prepped and you’ve added the serum, start blow-drying your hair with a ceramic round brush, trying to make it as straight as possible.

Create A Sleek Part

Once your hair is completely dry, create a clean part. This can be down the middle or on a specific side – whatever suits your style!

Use the tail of a comb to even it out. Once you have a part that you’re satisfied with, dab on styling gel on both sides to make the part stay in place. This will also add to the ultra-sleek finish! We also recommend investing in a special, updo brush to assist with sleeking back your hair.

Pull into a Sleek Low Bun

Once your part is in place, it’s time to create the sleek low bun. Pull all of your hair back tightly, letting it sit low on your neck. As soon as all of the hair is gathered, fasten it in a bungee tie. If the front isn’t as smooth as you would like, use a comb to brush through any spaces or bumps. When you’re happy with the front appearance, continue the hairstyle in the back. Twist the ponytail tightly, and wrap it into a sleek bun. Secure with another rubber band and bobby pins if needed.

Sleek Low Bun Final Touches

Yay!! Now that you’ve perfected your sleek low bun, it’s time to add some finishing touches.

Spray on a dry oil to add the perfect amount of shine. Then, spray hairspray over the entire hairstyle to keep it in place all day. Use extra gel for any flyaways, and then you’re done!

If you’re looking to style this bun for a big event like prom or a wedding, try wearing the sleek low bun with a high-neckline or a dress with a low-cut back! This hairstyle is much more laid-back and relaxed, so more of the attention will be on your dress.
