When we think of New Years Eve in NYC, we instantly think of the ball drop. However, there are many more locations and activities going on to help bring in the New Year. If you’re lucky enough to be New York City on December 31st, then make sure to check out these best places to go!

Of course if you’re in New York City for the holidays, how could you not watch the ball drop in Times Square? About a million people come to watch the crystal ball drop at midnight, and you can be one of them this year. This is probably the most iconic New Year’s Eve celebration, so we can’t really blame you for wanting to get in on this experience. The ball drops from the top of One Times Square and is best seen from the north, so make sure to either be on Broadway between 43rd and 50th street, and on Seventh Avenue between 43rd and 59th street. Due to the crowd and weather, you want to ensure you arrive early and dress warmly in layers. Then enjoy your night with great music and entertainment with everyone!

New Years Eve in NYC: New York Harbor

A great location that not many people think about going to on New Year’s Eve is the New York Harbor. Fireworks are launched from multiple places once the clock strikes midnight, even in Times Square, but it can be hard to see them due to the lights and noise. If you want the best firework show, then definitely consider the one over the New York Harbor. These fireworks are set off from Liberty Island and can be seen from downtown Manhattan’s Battery Park, the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, or by boat in the harbor. You can even go on a New Year’s Eve cruise or hop on the free Staten Island ferry for a closer look!

New Years Eve in NYC: Brooklyn Bridge

Another iconic landmark to watch fireworks is right on the Brooklyn Bridge. Not only can you enjoy a show here, but walking tours are also held. These guides are led by historians, revealing information about the bridge itself, and then pausing to scan the skyline for the midnight fireworks. Multiple tours in different languages go on, meeting at 160 Broadway and concluding on the Brooklyn Bridge. Departing time is 10:30pm, and you can easily book tickets on their website!

New Years Eve in NYC: Central Park

Your last destination in NYC for New Year’s Eve is Central Park. Here the firework display is visible from just about everywhere in the park, with plenty of well-lit places to settle in for the show. Unlike Times Square, Central Park serves warm food and drinks to visitors. In addition, you can participate in the New York Road Runners’ Midnight Run. The NYRR is a four-mile run,  which provides credit to finishers toward the New York City Marathon. The night begins at 10pm with dancing, taking in the gorgeous fireworks display, and then ends with a fun run. Definitely one of the most active places to be! And have you already chosen your New Year's eve dress?
