Everything You Need To Know About Microblading

2018.07.12

We see perfect eyebrows all over our social media and in real life. Chances are, they aren’t using tweezers, brow gels, pencils, and pomades. Microblading is the new, semi-permanent technique for the perfect eyebrows. A special microbladiing pen is used to draw on small, precise strokes that resemble the appearance of real hair. This leaves you with a natural-looking finish, requiring minimal upkeep for you. Before you run and make an appointment, here is everything you need to know about microblading!

Does Microblading Hurt?

Don’t let the fear of needles stop you from getting this done. Before the procedure is started, a technician numbs the area with a topical cream, so you’ll barely feel a thing! They then create tiny, hair-like incisions on the top layer of your brow skin using a fine blade with needles. This deposits small amounts of pigment into your skin, making your brows look instantly fuller.

Microblading may not hurt you physically, but it may hurt your wallet a bit. The price varies on where you live and what salon you choose. Nonetheless, it is an expensive service. The average cost of a microblading session is $425 (ouch!). Definitely start saving if you are truly considering this, along with looking online for deals and coupons.

Is Microblading Permanent?

Microblading is actually not as big of a commitment as people think. It’s a form of semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing, not your typical permanent makeup. This is because a smaller amount of dye is applied, which leads to faster fading. Still, microblading lasts longer than waxing or threading your eyebrows. These techniques usually lasts around 2-3 weeks before you have to make another appointment. On the other hand, microblading leaves you with fuller brows that only need to be touched up every 12-18 months. Furthermore, the brow artist can easily make adjustments if you want a different shape or color.

Is Microblading For Me?

Microblading won’t look or react the same for everyone, so keep that in mind. If you have dryer skin, the strokes will heal more defined and crisp. However if you have darker or oily skin, it can result in a more powdery look. If your skin is super sensitive, then we suggest steering clear. You also may be allergic to the pigment, which is why we suggest to test a small patch prior to your first session. If you experience any inflammation or rashes afterwards, see a doctor ASAP!

What’s The Aftercare?

After microblading is done, you have to properly care for it. Sun exposure can greatly affect the healing process, so you should be putting on at least SPF 30 every day. You should keep in mind that you got a treatment done that is easily prone to infection. Therefore, you should maintain a thin layer of Aquaphor, Neosporin, or coconut butter on your brows until they’re properly healed. You also want to keep out of water and excessive sweating to prevent the pigment from fading. For added comfort the first few nights, sleep on your back so you don’t irritate your raw, tender skin.
