Feng Shui is a system where you arrange your surroundings in harmony and balance with the natural world around you. Students, especially those moving into a dorm for the first time after living at home, can find a new surrounding not as comfortable as their bedrooms back home. Before the new college semester starts, we want to provide you with some easy Feng Shui tips to help ease the transition into your new dorm life!
Clear Clutter for Feng Shui
In Feng Shui, clutter actually represents postponed decisions and the inability to move forward. Therefore, you should be super careful with where you pile and file things. Your college dorm is small enough, so you don’t want to fill it up with unnecessary, old, or unused objects. To promote better and more positive chi flow, get rid of all old clothes, papers, books, and anything else you don’t need or want. When packing for college, only bring the essentials by making a clear list, along with purchasing storage items to keep your clutter under control. By keeping your room clean and organized, you will free your mind and open up to new ideas and experiences. This will promote productivity, happiness, and peace of mind throughout the year.
Position Your Bed for Feng Shui
Though this seems minor, the position of your dorm bed is actually key for balance in your dorm room. Try to position your bed so that it is against a back wall, or even attach your own headboard. This will instill you with a strong sense of support, and make sleeping a whole lot more comfortable. In addition, you should position your bed so you can easily see out the door without twisting your head. By facing the direction of the doorway, the energy from the outside world can be let in, but will not come in so strong that it disrupts your chi flow. Furthermore, you will gain a sense of safety and security this way, allowing you to have access to the higher order thinking part of the brain.
Add Plants for Feng Shui
According to Feng Shui, any shade of green in your sleeping space is nourishing and helps to promote healthy living and growth. This is because the color green calms the nerves, and should be placed in your dorm since you sleep there. Find indoor, living plants to put in your room to clear the air. Plants have good chi flow since they’re constantly breathing and exhaling energy. You’ll receive the benefits of renewal, fresh energy, and new beginnings effortlessly. Plus, they make the perfect dorm room decoration to give your room life!
Hang Mirrors for Feng Shui
You may already want a mirror in your dorm room, so it’s perfect to use to achieve Feng Shui. Hang mirrors on your wall, door, or place one on your desk. They will reflect energy and bring more light into the room with reflections. It also will create the illusion of a larger space and open up your small dorm room more. Make sure to position the mirror so that it can reflect what’s happening or going on behind you. They will reflect energy and movement that you might not see, adding to your safety and peace of mind. Additionally, it’s important to keep your mirrors clean so you can clearly see your future and let in all the positive chi.
