While we all look forward to our family and food on Thanksgiving, there’s also an alternative you can have before the holiday. Friendsgiving is a fun event to host, and all you need is great friends and great food. It can be as formal or casual as you desire, both being an amazing opportunity to celebrate the season in your own special way. Here we supply you with simple tips to plan the best Friendsgiving yet!
Choose the Best People
At a family gathering, you may not have much say about who gathers at your dining room table. At Friendsgiving, it’s all about hand picking your favorite people that you want to spend the holiday with. Choose from your coworkers, classmates, and of course, good friends. You can still have your siblings and cousins that you are close with there as well. The only rule here is to ensure your guest list consists of people who bring you joy!
Pick a Location & Time
Once you have your group picked, it’s essential to pick a time and location that works for everyone. The celebration may fall on the actual holiday, or it can be a different day of the week or month. Try having the best brunch on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, a nice dinner the week before, or an early supper over the holiday weekend.
Not only is picking a time and day important, but the location of your Friendsgiving is too. Decide if you’re going to host it at your place, one of the easiest gathering points. If that seems too overwhelming though, there are plenty of other options for you. Host it at a family or friend’s place, or in a public place such as a neighborhood park. A favorite restaurant among the group is another great option. Just make sure it’s an unanimous decision that everyone is happy with.
Experiment With Your Menu
Unless you decide to host Friendsgiving at a restaurant, then you’re responsible for your own food menu. Thanksgiving itself is already going to have all the staples – turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and mashed potatoes. On Friendsgiving, the rules are much looser and any food goes. It’s a great time to try out other recipes and cuisines that your group is interested in. This is especially fun if you are a vegetarian or vegan who are usually limited during holiday meals. Now is the time to get creative and make the right kind of food and amount of food for everyone.
Set The Friendsgiving Scene
Whatever your level of formality is, a festive table setting will make it more special. Get out the good dishes, mix-and-match with the perfect table settings, and top it off with some autumn decorations. A pretty tablecloth, nice cloth napkins, place cards, and a festive centerpiece are all great examples to elevate the experience. Finally, set the atmosphere with a playlist to set the mood, and continue to have the best Friendsgiving gathering ever!
