Liquid Lipsticks You Can Rely On

2019.02.08

Since Kylie Jenner’s first lip kit collection sold out in thirty seconds back in 2015, liquid lipsticks have been flying off store shelves and overwhelming our Instagram feeds. If you’ve never tried a liquid-to-matte formula out yourself, you may be wondering what all the hype is about.

A liquid lipstick is a magical product that glides on like a gloss but wears like a long-lasting lipstick. Though their formulas vary slightly depending on the brand, they tend to apply thickly, dry quickly, and last for hours and hours, no matter what kind of greasy goodness you indulge in. Though all of these qualities make this product alluring, some formulas can be very drying, leading to visible cracks and discomfort. With that in mind, you’ll want to be sure to do some thorough research before purchasing a tube of your own. To help you navigate the saturated liquid lipstick scene, we’ve rounded up six of our favorite products that wear well without dehydrating your lips.

Kylie Cosmetics Liquid Lipsticks

Kylie Cosmetics was by no means the first cosmetics company to release a line of liquid lipsticks, but the social media star was the catalyst for the lip kit craze that nearly broke the internet back in 2015. Her first launch featured three nude shades: Candy K, Dolce K and TrueBrown K. In a matter of seconds, millions of Kylie Jenner fans flocked to her website in hopes of finally securing a buzz-worthy pout of their own. Four years later, Kylie has become a billionaire, due largely in part to her beauty empire.

It seems that the verdict is in: most reviewers agree that the Kylie kits are worth the hype. YouTube stars have put the product line to the test by wearing the lipsticks for long hours, snacking on greasy treats and even arranging kiss tests. In most instances, the wearers came to the conclusion that the kits have incredible lasting power and are pretty easy to apply. Though some argue that Kylie’s liquid lippies are a touch drying, they still remain a favorite within the beauty community.

Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip

Colourpop’s popularity is no surprise: it’s affordable prices and British flair has captured the hearts of makeup artists and beauty novices alike. Naturally, when the company released their take on the liquid lipstick trend, many were eager to give the product a whirl. Although the formula is not quite as long-lasting as some other competing products, Colourpop’s Ultra Matte Lip is ultra moisturizing. Plus, when the lipstick wears off, it leaves behind a beautiful, natural-looking stain. Who doesn’t love a good two-in-one?

Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Lipstick

Too Faced jumped on the liquid lipstick bandwagon pretty early on. The Melted Matte lippies busted onto the scene in 2017, and since then, the line has had a number of unique iterations, including a latex line, a metallic collection, a Kandee Johnson Collab, and a holiday edition. With each and every launch, the melted matte formula has been well received by makeup lovers. Pigmented and long-lasting, the liquified lipsticks are known to wear like a second skin.

Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint

When Rihanna dropped her Stunna Lip Paints, everyone dropped what they were doing to purchase a bottle. Each shade is famous for looking gorgeous on all skin tones, and the formula is often cited as being a velvety dream. Of course, RiRi added an extra punch to her liquid lipstick by packaging it in a thick glass bottle complete with a stiletto-shaped wand. Another special feature is the doe foot applicator that has special contours designed to hug the edge of the lips for seamless application. Once it’s applied, it holds on like no other. This product is perfect for Fridays; it stays on throughout the workday and lasts long into the night.

Dior Addict Lip Tattoo

Liquid lipsticks tend to be extremely thick and pigmented, but sometimes thick formulas are the last thing you want. If you’re a fan on the no-makeup makeup look, Dior Addict Lip Tattoo is your new best friend. Dior’s spin on liquid lipstick takes a page out of the lip stain book with it’s light-as-air wear and soft color payoff. Don’t worry, though, this product is just as long-lasting as any other liquid lip. So, if you tend to opt just for BB cream and brows, this is the lipstick for you.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipsticks

Before Kylie Jenner shook the internet with her lip kits, Jeffree Star Cosmetics was making a pretty penny selling their liquid-to-matte lipsticks. Jeffree Star went from indie brand to MUA favorite when he began posting Jeffree Star Cosmetics-related content on his YouTube channel in 2014. His channel now sports an impressive 12 million subscribers, and he has become well known for his controversial tendencies and tell-it-like-it-is personality.

When it comes to the Velour Liquid Lipsticks, just like Jeffree himself, what you see is what you get. They are true to color, long-lasting, super pigmented and will not dry out your lips. Best of all, they come in every edgy shade imaginable. If you’re in the market for a show-stopping lip color, check out Jeffree’s collection.
