Prom is over…now what?! For some people, the nostalgia your Prom dress holds for you is stronger than any desire you have to make space in your jam-packed closet. For others, in the words of Ariana, it’s “thank you, next” once Prom ends. If you’re the type who wants to hold on to those precious memories, we feel you. But what do you do with the dress after all of your IG followers have seen it? We get that everyone is purging their closets in the name of spring cleaning, and we totally understand the desire to start fresh. But what if we told you that there was a way to embrace spring cleaning without parting with your prom dress?
Here are three quick tips for what you can do to make that dress Insta-worthy once again after it’s lived its best Prom life.
Cut It Short
Most girls opt to wear a long dress to Prom, which is understandable since many feel like it’s the biggest event of their teenage life. Why not go all out, right? If you rocked a long frock, we suggest turning that gorgeous gown into the chicest cocktail dress. Not only will it make the style look brand new, but there are so many occasions that call for shorter dresses. Whether you’re going to homecoming or attending a wedding, you’ll have the ease of already knowing what to wear. Plus, it will make for a one-of-a-kind look!
Cool and Casual
Not ready to make such a drastic change? No problem! Maxi dresses are a summer staple. Take that evening glam and make it into a casual day look by pairing your ex-Prom dress with a denim jacket and some sneakers or wedges. If you opted for an ultra fancy style, try wearing a tee over it and knotting at the bottom to give the illusion of a long skirt. You can also edge up a fancier style by adding heeled booties and a leather jacket. With a little extra eyeliner, you’ll be ready to show the night who’s boss.
Look Good, Do Good
Giving up all hope on the thought of repurposing it? We have a plan for you! If you felt like a Queen on your special day, why not pay it forward? We suggest donating your gently-used dress to a worthy cause like Faviana’s Upcycle Program. This is our initiative to give back to teens and women in need of their own special red carpet moment. This season, we’ve partnered up with GLAM4GOOD, and organization, community, and movement that ignites positive social change through style. In just a few easy steps, Faviana will collect your dress and donate it to the Upcycle Program on your behalf. After all, the only thing better than feeling good in your own skin is helping someone else feel their best in their own. Plus, donating your gown is a great way to be a good steward to the environment by embracing sustainable practices. Learn more about how you can make an impact here.
