Are you someone who wants pretty prom glam but are not a bold makeup type? With a few tricks it is easy to create a look that is simple and chic, without overwhelming your style. Subtle, understated makeup is also a great way to keep the attention on your fabulous prom dress. From skin to eyes, we have you covered for everything you need to do a subtle eye makeup look for prom!
1. Face First
The key to light and natural looking prom glam is glowing, healthy skin. Make sure you are pampering your skin in the weeks leading up to prom, and steering clear of harsh masks or peels. When the big night comes, make sure your face is clean and moisturized before starting your makeup.
Primer is always a great first step for a lasting look, and your usual concealer and foundation will be the easiest and most natural kind of coverage. Stay away from dramatic contouring for this look, and instead go for a natural looking highlight or peachy blush. Here it is also essential to match your foundation carefully to your skin tone, this ensures your look is on the natural side.
2. Less is More Shadow
We all adore a good eye shadow, and for a subtle makeup look you can still wear a gorgeous shade! Simply opt for neutral colors, or light metallics. Blending is essential to making this look work, and be sure not to bring the shadow too high on your brow bone. Try a light beige or ivory on the entire lid, and then darken the crease with a brown or neutral burgundy to accent.
3. Liner Goes a Long Way
While a dramatic cat eye often seems like the best look, sometimes dark, heavy liner is just not your style. Try doing a simpler winged eye, with just a thin line and a slight wing with a liquid eyeliner pen. To ensure it is not too dramatic, be sure to line as close to your lash line as possible, and you could even use a brown liner to lighten. From the lower lash line a pencil liner is usually best, as liquid is much bolder. Try lining with pencil then smudging it out with a darker shadow for a slight smokey eye.
4. Minimal Mascara
For this low-key look, less is more with the lashes. Skip the fake lashes, which in turn will save you time and stress, and simply amplify your own lashes a bit. A few sweeps on the top and lower lashes is all you need, and if you have longer lashes that already stand out, try a brown mascara for a more subtle look.
Complete this look with a nude or light pink lip, in glossy or matte, and you are ready to go! Prom glam does not have to be over the top to look stunning. Try mixing up these tips to achieve your own individual look, and work it with confidence!
