Your next formal event just around the corner, which means it’s time to scour every website, boutique, and shop to find your perfect formal dress! In addition to looking at trends, length, style, and details, finding a dress that compliments your skin tone is an essential note to remember. We all come in a variety of beautiful shades and colors, so why not find a dress that will enhance your natural coloring and help you feel and look your best!?
Don’t know what colors best compliment your skin tone? Never fear – we’ve got you covered.
Determine Your Undertone
There are may be many different shades of skin, but there are only two undertones. All you need to know is this: the undertone is what counts! To see what your undertone is, turn your hand over, palm up, and look at the underside of your wrist. What color are the veins? If they are blue or purple, you’re cool toned. Green or a little yellow? You’re warm toned. If you can’t tell what color your veins are, you’re neutral toned. That’s it – it’s that simple!
But what does all this mean?
Understanding Your Undertone
Cool toned women look best in, (surprise!) “cool” colors, such as white, black, royal blue, gray, navy, bright and royal blue, sapphire, emerald, amethyst, deep purples, and lavender. Think of colors that remind you of the sea and sky or beautiful gem-like colors.
However, just because you’re cool toned, that doesn’t mean you can’t wear warm colors as well – try a ruby colored dress or bright rose! Plus, when it comes to metallics, silver is your go-to!
Women who are warm toned look beautiful in earthy hues such as oranges, golden yellow, brown, dark green, and that gorgeous shade of red leaves turn when autumn comes! Again, just because you’re warm toned that doesn’t mean you can’t rock a “cool” look! Check out olive, deep turquoise, and green moss colored dresses too!
Last but not least, if you’re neutral toned, the colors that are going to work best for you are those that fall in the middle of the color spectrum. Look for light peach, dusty pinks, soft rose, and blush tones. Keep in mind, anything too bright or vibrant can look overwhelming compared to your skin tone, so if you want to try yellow or red, go for soft version.
Whether you’re warm, cool, or neutral toned, there are hundreds of beautiful dresses to choose from. Your perfect dress may take some time to find (after all, you do want to look your absolute best), but it will all be worth it! Dressing for your skin tone is sure to make you stand out during your special night!
