Women of Faviana: Turning Fashion Into Empowerment

2017.10.25

Here at Faviana, we have endless amounts of inspiring women around us. Hearing how they do it all with their motivation leaves us with great tips to apply to our own lives. Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Natasha Nurse to present and speak to us about her own inspiring story. She learned from past experiences how to seek out fashion as a source of strength early on in life, actively using it now as a personal means of empowerment. We’re here today to share with you that story, in Women of Faviana: Turning Fashion Into Empowerment!

Turning Fashion Into Empowerment: Dressing Room 8

As a born and raised New Yorker (and animal lover!), Natasha is used to meeting new people and learning something new each day. This makes it easy to accomplish her goal, with the help of being a licensed attorney by trade and making her way through the corporate world of course. She was bullied as a child growing up, so this gave her a strong desire to help others within the plus size community through fashion and writing. Therefore, Natasha started Dressing Room 8 to provide a web-based resource where women can gain personal and professional empowerment through her fashion and lifestyle-focused blog, consultation, and coaching services. Dressing Room 8 helps women to think with clarity, dress with confidence, and live with purpose. You can follow Dressing Room 8 on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google Plus to see the inspiration yourself.

Turning Fashion Into Empowerment: Other Influences

In addition to running Dress Room 8, Natasha definitely likes to keep a full calendar. In the past, she created the WST Feminist Blog, an open forum for sharing original content, links, and creative work addressing cutting-edge women’s issues. She now continues to leave a mark on women by teaching an Introduction to Women’s Studies course at Nassau Community College, writing as a Lifestyle Editor for Plus Model Magazine, being the Program Coordinator for Long Island Girl Talk, and recently partnering with her husband to create the new podcast WokeNFree.

Turning Fashion Into Empowerment: Her Advice

After hearing Natasha’s story in person, she left us with empowering material we can share with all of you. She taught us multiple consumer insights and exercises into how to be better leaders ourselves, and influence the people around us. You can improve yourself by surrounding yourself around positivity, stop comparing yourself to others, following those who we connect to, and inspiring yourself by talking positive to yourself. Natasha left us with the most important advice to remember, “There is no wrong body type, beauty has no size.” With this quote in mind, we can promote body positivity on ourselves along with the people around us.

Did Natasha inspire you as much as she did us? Share with us how you turn fashion into empowerment by tagging us on Instagram @glamandgowns, and Faviana’s Instagram @Faviana_NY, Snapchat @Faviana_NY, and Twitter @FavianaNY.
