Feeling good about yourself both inside and out takes a lot of hard work and exercise is an important component involved in living a healthy life. Exercise is not only healthy for the body, but for the mind. Brooklyn born fitness instructor Juelz stopped by Faviana last month to help kick us into shape for the summer. Fiit Juelz specializes in high intensity interval training (HIIT) which consists of cardio training, strength training, and toning all in one. Here are some tips she shared with us about getting in shape this summer and hopefully they inspire you to get up and get active!
1. Keep Your Body Moving
This first tip is one that we have all heard before when it comes to being healthy. It might be hard to keep your body moving while working a desk job from 9-5, but adding a few minutes of movement into your daily routine can make a huge difference. If you have to take a call, pace around on the phone instead of sitting down. Take the stairs instead of waiting for the elevator after your lunch break. Did you know that you can burn up to 5 calories a minute slowly walking up the stairs?!
2. Get a Physical or Technological Workout Partner
Sometimes all it takes is for a friend to say they want you to go to the gym with them. Not only will this give you motivation to actually get up and go, but you will be spending time with someone you care about. If you don’t have a workout buddy, having a fitness device such as a Fitbit that can remind you of your daily exercise or lack thereof is important in helping you be accountable and stay on track.
3. Make A Fitness Plan For The Day
Making a fitness plan for the day is important when it comes to developing a workout regimen. If you are a beginner, start small with a list of a few exercises that you know how to do. The important part of making a fitness plan is to stick to it. Complete what you have written down at the beginning even if it takes longer than anticipated.
4. Workout Anywhere And Anytime Using Your Own Body Weight
One of the most common excuses for not working out is that you don’t have equipment easily at your disposal. You don’t need equipment to squeeze a workout in whether it be on the subway platform or in the bathroom at work. Using your own body weight can be equally as effective as lifting weights or running on the treadmill. Some exercises that you can easily do using your own body weight include squats, burpees, lunges and push-ups just to name a few.
5. Take Before And After Pictures
You aren’t going to see a noticeable difference in pictures taken before and after a single workout. However, if you look back after a few weeks, you will be able to see progress whether it be a few inches off your waist or a few inches added to your booty!
