Layers are a must-have winter essential to fight the cold and stay warm for long periods of time outside. However, many of us don’t know how to layer properly or fear that we’re going to look too bulky by wearing too much clothing. We’re here to show you how to layer like a pro so you still look your best while staying cozy this season!
Layer Like a Pro with the Basics
A perfectly layered look starts with a good foundation. Therefore, your first layer should consist of a basic, long sleeve top. Make sure it is lightweight and something solid, neutral, or striped! We suggest a fitted black turtleneck, since it’s in style and matches almost any outfit. This top is super stackable as other layers will look seamless over it. In addition, the tight fit will compliment your curves and create a proportional silhouette when paired with the rest of your look. Keeping the bottom layers more fitted is key to layer like a pro!
Layer With a Soft Sweater
After you have a basic top on, it’s time to add your next layer. This can be any soft sweater option of your choice! If you’re into color, this is the perfect opportunity to mix in a bold shirt to give your outfit more depth and personality. You can pair your basic top with your favorite cardigan, sweater, flannel, pull-over, or button down. No matter which one you choose, just keep the length and proportion in mind when layering. You want to be sure that the lengths of your garments compliment one another!
Layer With a Chic Coat
Now that you got your first few layers together, the next step is adding your jacket. Of course, you want to base your jacket choice off of the temperature outside, but you should also take your own personal style preferences into account. You can opt for a vintage-washed denim jacket as a layer, wearing this both inside or outside. For a work or professional setting, you may choose a matching blazer. If you don’t have to follow a dress code, go for your favorite bomber jacket, parka, leather jacket, or fur coat! Regardless of which you choose, it’s important to play with texture and a mix of materials when styling a layered look, since the same fabrics may make your outfit look heavier.
Layer With Matching Accessories
Don’t think your outfit is complete yet! The last layers to consider are chic, but warm, winter accesories. Try out the matchy-matchy trend with a coordinating knit hat and scarf to keep you extra warm. Other additional include winter headbands, beanies, earmuffs, and gloves. If you want to accentuate your figure more, add a belt to top off your look. Finally, sprinkle on some bling with your favorite rings, layered necklaces, and  a watch. With the addition of your winter makeup, you’ll be ready to take on the winter season in style!
