How to Pull Off a Bold Makeup Look

2018.04.06

Bold makeup looks amazing on the runway stage and in high-end fashion magazines. Nonetheless, we should be able to rock our own wearable, exotic makeup. When it comes to trying bold makeup, the trick to pulling it off is to stick to one look. Too many bold looks together at once just results in too much makeup, which we don’t want. There are plenty of options for you to choose to accentuate, and we’re here to show you how to pull off your own bold makeup look!

Bold Makeup: Red Lip

There’s no better way to make a statement than with red lips. This bold lip is easy to achieve in a few easy steps. Start by lining your lips with a lip liner close to your natural lip color, since it can be hard to match the shade of your lipstick exactly. Then take your favorite red lipstick, and fill in the rest of your lips. You can choose an intense shade of red, or go for a softer version of a bright red-orange. No matter which you choose, you’ll be sure to make a statement. Red lips are so strong by themselves, you don’t need much other makeup on your face!

Take your top eyeliner to the bold level by creating a cat eye. Winged eyeliner can be tricky to achieve, but once mastered, you’ll never want to go back. Try it with a damp brush dipped in black eyeshadow, liquid eyeliner, eyeliner pencil, or gel liner. Even if you make a mistake, you can smudge the line for a smokey look. Smokey eyes are another bold makeup look, so you’re doing yourself a favor. Start with three shades of an eyeshadow color, using the lighter tones in the middle of your eye, ending with black by your eyeliner flick on the outside. Just remember, blending is key when it comes to going bold with eye shadow, so use your fingers to smudge any harsh lines.

Bold Makeup: Colored Eyeliner

For a more exotic look, you can use colored eyeliner instead of black for your top and bottom eyelid. Pick a shade that either matches or complements your outfit or eye color. To make brighter colors more wearable, you can also pair them with a neutral liner. For example, if you wear green, purple, or blue liner on your lower lash line, then apply black or brown along the upper lash lines. No matter what, have fun with this option and experiment with different colors until you get your desired look!

Finally, it’s time to finish your bold look with some bold brows. For this, you can use a brow pomade, a brow pencil, brow powder, or powder eye shadow. Just make sure whichever cosmetic you use is the same shade as your natural brows, not darker! Start by filling in your brows, then exaggerating your arch and length.
