What to do in Bushwick

2017.08.29

Here at Faviana, we are inspired by all things NYC, the city where our first collection started just about 30 years ago. Even today, we love the city’s energy and refined elegance, which is always a big component of all our collections, our mission, and our vision. That is why we decided to create a weekly series in which we showcase all the best that New York City has to offer. Whether you live in the city or want to visit sometime, we hope our list of the best things to do in some of the most exciting neighborhoods and boroughs gives you plenty of options to have fun and new adventures and this week we are going to Bushwick!

We hope you enjoyed last week’s post about what to do in Greenwich Village! Make sure to check out our posts about AstoriaConey IslandBelmontCoronaDUMBOChelsea, and Midtown.

Located in Brooklyn and close to the ever hip(ster) Williamburg, Bushwick has become a nice alternative for people who want to live in a place that has a sense of community and authenticity. This neighborhood is especially popular with the creative types, since so many of its old warehouses and big factories are now renovated as artists studios and outdoor painting spaces. We are sure you’ll have a good time in this eclectic neighborhood, so make sure to keep reading to find out how!

Morning: Thrift Shopping

One of coolest things you can do while you are in Bushwick is shopping. And if you love thrift shopping, then you are definitely in the right place. If you are looking for awesome vintage and newer clothing finds you can go to Friends, which stocks a nicely curated mix of new clothes, accessories, home items and vintage pieces.  Urban Jungle Vintage and L Train Vintage have massive selections of vintage clothing, and most pieces go for around $10 to $20!

Afternoon: See The Outdoor Art

Walking around Bushwick is basically like walking around a big public art gallery. Enjoy the outdoors art and really get to know the neighborhood by walking it thoroughly and seeing the existent graffiti-painted walls of most buildings around this neighborhood. On any given day, you can go to Bushwick and see the artists themselves in action, climbed in stair ladders, paint brushes in hand, to reach the highest places of some community building.  Here, graffiti is celebrated and practiced with large-scale pieces of street art on display for everyone to see.

Evening: Roberta’s

Graffiti influence really is everywhere in Bushwick, and so is also the case with Roberta’s, probably the most popular and well known pizzerias in the neighborhood (and arguably, in Brooklyn). The restaurant’s insides are super cool and laid-back, and even the restroom stalls are decorated with art, stickers and hand-painted remarks. What keeps people coming, of course, are the pizzas (served by the pie, not in slices) which are cooked to perfection in their brick-oven, focusing more in fresh ingredients that flashy ingredient combinations. Make sure to end a long day of walking and thrifting by having dinner in one of the best pizzerias in town!

Hopefully, now you know what to do in Bushwick! What is your favorite neighborhood in the city? Is there a place you are dying to go?
