A long, white gown may be the traditional attire for a wedding in North America, but that doesn’t mean our modern brides need to conform to those ideals. Look, the only real reason we started wearing white wedding dresses in the first place was because of the social standards Queen Victoria put in to place a long time ago. Wearing a white dress was thought of as a symbol of purity, being rich, and so on and so forth. We’re not saying that all traditions are bad. We’re just saying that when it comes to modern brides…why not have a little fun?
Last years have brought on a lot of change due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Couples who planned to get married in during these years are embracing these changes and choosing to elope or have a small outdoor weddings. Since we’re already pushing the social norms on HOW we are having weddings, why not take it a step further and choose an alternative wedding dress? Your dress is one of the ways you show your style and express yourself the most. It should be exactly what you want it to be. Here are some alternative wedding gown options to consider beyond the traditional, white dress.
Play With Color
Keep It Simple
Go Short
It Has To Feel Like YOU!
The most important thing to keep in mind on your wedding day is that you choose a wedding dress alternative that truly reflects your personality and style. Don’t be afraid to buck tradition (you haven’t been with anything else in your life so far anyway) and go for it!
We hope this helped lay out some of the non-traditional options available for our modern brides. It can feel overwhelming to begin planning your wedding, but just take it one step at a time and make decisions that are true to the two of you as a couple. Just remember, you want to wear something on your wedding day that you look back on and feel absolutely beautiful! If that means classic and traditional, that’s great! And if that means a little wild and stylish, that’s amazing too! ‘You do you’ is the only rule here.
