Raise your hand if you feel pressure to make prom the best night of your life. While I can’t see you, I know you are raising your hand because let’s face it, movies and television put so much pressure on us to make prom the best night of our lives. It is completely normal to have the butterflies before prom out of stress and anxiety because it is an important night and you want it to go smoothly. Here at Faviana we are all about empowering women and lifting each other up, so in order to make sure you have the best prom experience possible, we have came up with a few tips to help you manage your anxiety so you can have an amazing time!
Journal Your Expectations
One of the keys to having a successful and stress free prom night is organizing everything in advance. Getting a journal and writing a list of how you want your prom day to unfold is important because it will give you insight to whether or not you are living in a fantasy world or actually have reasonable expectations. I would say a reasonable expectation is to be on time and look your absolute best with the resources you have available. An example of an unreasonable expectation would be to take a tour of NYC before prom because it would be “cute.” While that sounds like a nice idea, you have to think realistically because we all know that on important days something always seems to go off schedule!
Make Your Schedule
The chances are that if you are having your prom, then so are thousands of other teenagers in your area. With that being said, it is important to book your appointments for your hair, makeup, and nails so you are not scrambling at the last minute to get everything accomplished. It is important to give yourself a lot of time between each because sometimes appointments tend to run late or go over their scheduled time. If you want to spend some quality time with your girls before prom as in getting your hair and makeup done together, then it is important that you schedule for the same time and keep track of the times in a journal.
Trial Run
I don’t think any of us want to have our look for prom come to us as a surprise because after all it is a pretty special day. In order to prevent anxiety about how we are going to look, it is important to try your look ahead of time. I would suggest trying on different colors and styles of shoes, dresses, nail polish, and accessories all at once to make sure you are confident that you look as stunning as you imagined. If something goes wrong or doesn’t look like the way you imagined during your trial run, then you have time to change it before it really matters. Here at Faviana we have hundreds of prom dresses that you can choose from for your special night, so make sure you take a look at our site before your big night arrives.
Hit The Gym
Let’s be honest. Hitting the gym is not the most exciting thing in the world, but it does impact both your mental and physical health in a positive way. I think the word “exercise” is a little scary, but it doesn’t have to be. Going on a walk, doing the hula hoop, and dancing are all examples of exercises that are not only fun but will have you breaking a sweat in no time.
Not only will exercise help you to look your best, but it is also a great way to de-stress! When you exercise, your body releases endorphins that boost your mood and will leave you feeling better for hours after you finish.
Be Positive
It might be easy for you to pick out every single thing that goes wrong on this big day, but what would actually make you feel better is to list the things you are grateful for. For example, you can think about how lucky you are to get the opportunity to go to prom, to wear a dress that looks great on you, and to spend it with friends who truly care about you. If trivial details fall apart at the last minute, keeping in mind the important things and that will make all of the difference in how the day unfolds.
Self-care is essential for everyday, but especially leading up to prom. The key is to take a deep breath, prep for success, and focus on what is most important which really is having fun!
