So you have your dress, shoes, accessories all picked out, and your hair appointment is booked. Now it’s time to make sure your date is all set too! As we all know, sometimes guys can be a little fashion oblivious, so they might need a little extra help getting prom ready. Have you been wondering what is standard prom styling tips for guys? What about some new ideas that are trending for 2017? Here at Faviana we did a little digging to find some fool proof tips, and some new trends for guys. Here is Prom Styling Tips for Guys!
The Tux
For many guys, this is the easy part. However, sometimes finding a tux that fits properly and looks fashion forward can be difficult. Whether you and your date are shopping for a tux to purchase or rent, you will for sure need to try on a few. The key is fit, which means it is time to measure up. Tux measurements include:
- Neck
- Sleeve length
- Waist
- Hips
- Outseam
- Height
- Chest
- Overarm
Work with your date to get these measurements so you know where to start when shopping. A properly fitted tux will look clean cut and fashionable.
Color Theme
Now the standard prom protocol is to match the guys shirt to your dress, but for 2017 there have been a few style updates. Instead of going for a direct match in color, try a variation of your dress color. For example, if you are wearing a gorgeous royal blue dress, maybe your date could look into finding a dusty blue shirt. This way, in pictures, your looks will flow, and not look tacky.
Shoes
Often when getting a tux, especially if your date plans to rent, shoes come with the look. Here we must warn against renting shoes! If your date already has a pair of black dress shoes, go with something you already know fits. New shoes that have not been broken in will undoubtably make his feet hurt before you even hit the dance floor. If new shoes are necessary, be sure to take them out for a night or two to break them in!
The Tie
The Huffington Post
A bow tie is a look that will never go out of style. For a classic look go for a black bow tie. Also insist your date gets a real bow tie and not a clip on, and both learn how to tie it! If you are looking to mix up the style a bit, try using the tie as a way to coordinate with your date! A tie with a subtle colored pattern may be a perfect way to accent that gorgeous dress color, without being over the top.
Accessories
Just as we have said for styling tips for girls, for prom sometimes less is more. Focus on a few key pieces to accent your prom look. If you and your date are looking for a glam look, look into a flashy pair of cufflinks, or even a vintage pair if that accents your look. A watch is one of the easiest ways to accent a prom look, and makes a subtle but sophisticated statement.
The key for guys getting dressed for prom is to remain comfortable, and to be sure you also like your look, not just your date! Spend a little time gathering all aspects of your look, as the pictures and memories will last a lifetime.
